From the boys and girls, parents and the Fireballs club a big thankyou to Coach Andrew, Coach Jimmy, Coach Ben, Coach Brett and Coach Chris. Our future stocks of cricketers are in good hands.

Cleveland-Thornlands Six-A-Side Carnival - 23/24 January 2010
After brushing the cobwebs off at the Nambour Invitational the previous week (See report below), our U12’s and U13’s travelled to the bay side to compete in the very hotly contested Cleveland-Thornlands Six-A-Side Carnival. Again in very hot conditions our players performed very well against some very hot opposition. Following are the reports from each day and some pics. Well done boys!

U12 Team Ready to Go!
U12 Team
The Ferny Fireballs Team of Jacob Allison, Jordy Cabot, Connor Gleeson, Connor O’Farrell, Matthew Skilton-O’Kane and Declan Smith represented the Club strongly. The boys played 4 matches and narrowly missed the semis. They recorded solid wins over Cleveland-Thornlands and Mansfield and lost to the Young Lions (Bald Hills) and a very strong Toowoomba team (winner of the final). Their effort was commendable given a number of the opposition teams had a heavy make up of representative players. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and gained valuable experience from participation. The importance of decisive and quick running between the wickets was one skill that was reinforced.
U13 Team
Fireballs coached by Gary Somerville started with a draw against Holland Park Hawks (49 runs each). Game 2 against Toowoomba West resulted in a loss 43 runs to 52. After the lunch break the team put together 2 great wins against Western Strikers and the Wilston North team “Glyn’s Gladiators” 65 runs to 52. Last win was exceptional with Ferny dismissing the Gladiators included was 3 run outs. Excellent team performances resulted in Ferny being placed 4th overall after the pool matches.

Ferny played the semi final against the Tiger Sharks who proved too strong on the day. It was an excellent all round performance by the Ferny boys and they proved excellent ambassadors for the Ferny club. Team members were: Adam Cook, Frankie Futcher, Ryan Wilson, Tim Somerville, Sam Konecny & Brent Robertson. (Photos below provided by Michael Futcher).

Nambour Invitational - 3 Nil Win to Fireballs
In very hot conditions, three combined Ferny teams, U11/12; U13/14 & U15/16 travelled to Nambour on Sunday 17 January for the annual Nambour Invitational, an initiative by Grant ledger (Nambour) and Bill Ledger (Ferny) to give the players an opportunity to brush a few cobwebs out prior to the 2nd half of the season. It also gives our players an opportunity to gain experience playing on turf wickets at Nambour’s terrific facility.

All teams and supporters had a great day with a clean sweep across all three games. Full match reports can be found here. Following are the results and some snaps from the day.

U11/12 – Ferny Fireballs 8/227 v Nambour 10/81 and 10/81
